DESCRIPTION:Copper bowl workshop (CJ09X5YHa) \nOn this fun 3 hour silversmithing course you will learn how to create a shallow domed bowl from sheet copper using traditional techniques. \nTechniques: \n– Mark out a circle using dividers \n– Cut out the circle using tin snips \n– File the edges to make sure they are not sharp \n– Use a blocking hammer and tree stump former to sink the metal into a shallow bowl form \n– Use gas torch to anneal the copper bowl \n– Use planishing hammers and a metal stake to even out the bowl form and create a smooth surface \n– Finish edges with sanding papers \n– Polish bowl using polishing wheel\, mops and compounds \n  \nKeep your bowl as a beautiful copper piece or choose to enamel it on the copper enamelling course on Monday 14th December at Yardley Arts. \n  \nTutor:  Beccy \nLevel: Beginner friendly \nMaterials: In addition to the course fee \n  \nPlease read our cancellation policy before booking. \nYou can find all of our other courses here. \n

DESCRIPTION:Technical Day – Baguette Setting (CJ19X1YHa) Ring or pendant \nTechnical days are a selection of more advanced jewellery courses for learners looking to add to their current skills. \nThis course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of how to design\, fabricate and set a piece of jewellery with a baguette faceted gemstone. \nBeccy will guide you through each step with a structured\, hands-on approach\, where you will explore the principles of mount construction\, design and stone setting. \nBy the end of the course\, learners will have the confidence and practical skills to fabricate and set baguette stones and apply the techniques to future projects too. \nLearning Outcomes\n\nAccurately measure gemstones and calculate material dimensions\nSelect suitable metals and material thicknesses for the selected stone\nScore and bend the material to the accurate size to seat the stone\nCut the end bezels to fit the stone accurately\nConstruct ring shank or pendant bail to fit the style of the piece\nBurr the seating for the gemstone to be set\nFile the end bezels accurately ready for setting\nSet the stone\nFile and finish to remove solder and imperfections\nPolish the completed piece to a professional standard\n\nLevel: Suitable for those with experience of soldering\, forming and cabochon stone setting \nThe day will be very technical and accurate measuring and forming is paramount in order for the setting to work. \nMaterials: In addition to the course fee and will be approx £15-£50 depending on your design and stone you choose. \nTutor: Beccy Gillatt \nPlease read our cancellation policy before booking  \nYou can view our other courses here. \n   \nOur levels explained: \nBeginner – suitable for all \nImprover – some basic jewellery making experience required including wire forming \nIntermediate – experience of forming\, soldering and basic stone setting essential \nExperienced – experienced in accurate forming\, soldering multiple connections and faceted stone setting essential \nAdvanced – Competent in many varying aspects of jewellery making (soldering\, forming and stone setting) to a high standard.

DESCRIPTION:Flush setting jewellery workshop (BJ22X4YHa) \nOn this one day silver jewellery workshop you will learn the technique of flush setting round faceted stones into sterling silver to create beautiful pendants\, rings or earrings. \nBy the end of the session you will be able to: \n\nAccurately measure metal and stones.\nLay and mark out stone positioning on metal with enough space to set them effectively.\nIdentify burrs and their uses.\nChoose appropriate burrs for your stone sizes.\nUse a pendant motor to drill through metal to create a seat for your stones.\nUse a needle burnisher to set your stones.\nFile\, sand and polish your piece.\n\nNB: Some of the time spent may be practicing the technique in copper. Learners can expect to complete between 1 and 3 finished pieces depending on skill level. \nTutor: Beccy \nLevel: Beginners welcome – Good hand dexterity and eyesight essential.
