Welcome to the next step on your setting journey as Scott leads you into the world of pavé and star setting. \nThings get a bit trickier here\, but fear not as you’ll be taught everything you need to know by a Master Goldsmith and Setter\, Scott McIntyre who’ll give you full tutorials before allowing you time to have a go and ask any questions you want! You’ll have lots of time to complete the tasks\, however\, this will all be pointless if you don’t keep practicing once you’re back in your own workshop! Keep going\, it’s worth it! \nCan I do this class?\nPlease note that you need to have a fine understanding of jewellery making. Knowledge of basic to moderate jewellery techniques is most definitely required. Skills such as soldering\, filing and saw piercing are essential. Prior experience with scorpers/gravers is handy but not a deal-breaker. \nThis is for jewellers who have already completed our Intro to Stone Setting or equivalent. If you’re unsure about where your skills lie\, just give us a shout to see what’s best for you. \nWhat happens?\n\nPrepare and demonstrate maintenance of essential pave and star setting tools\nUse burrs and scorpers to pave set in a straight line\nSet round faceted stones using burrs and a graver to achieve star setting\n\nThis day course will give you a fantastic understanding of intermediate-level setting that will give your designs and technical ability a boost. Experience tells us that you’ll come up with all sorts of brilliant ideas with your sexy new skills! \nScott believes in teaching at the most affordable level. That means he teaches traditional hand pushing and doesn’t rely on all the fancy pants kit that you need to sell a kidney for. Here is proof that top-class\, high-end setting is achievable in an economic manner. \nDo I need to bring anything?\nBring a sketchbook or similar for taking notes. Please note that glasses/optivisors are mandatory for this class [get in touch if you’re unsure]. Welcome to Scott’s next level stone setting class! But don’t be put off by stepping up\, you’ve done it before and you’ll do it again! If you’ve mastered pavé\, there’s no reason why you can’t progress here. \nYes\, it’s a bit more fiddly\, but man it is so rewarding! Nothing beats that feeling of success after all that time and preparation. And the good thing is you’ll be taught these styles by Scott McIntyre a true Master Goldsmith and Setter\, who will lead you through everything step by step until you fully understand what’s involved and are confident enough to get going! \nCan I do this class?\nPlease note that you need to have a damn good understanding of jewellery making. Knowledge of pretty much all bench techniques is required here. You’ll definitely need good pendant motor control\, be used to drilling and burring\, and have some experience using scorpers. This course is for jewellers who have already completed Intermediate Stone Setting [flush and pavé] or equivalent. If you have any questions or want to know where your current skills lie\, please don’t hesitate to ask! \nWhat happens?\nChannel Setting \n\nUse burrs and gravers to remove material to create a seat for round stones\nUse stone setting pushers to set round stones in a line\nUse bearing cutters and burrs to channel set square stones\nUse stone setting pushers to set square stones in a line\n\nIt doesn’t look like much written down\, but there is a whole heap of work that goes into the preparation of these styles before you even get near setting the stones. DESCRIPTION:Casting using delft clay and cuttlefish (BB02X1YHa) \nOn this one day casting course you will use a different range of items to experiment with making moulds from delft sand and cuttlefish. \nThere is also a chance to cast in water\, pasta and rice if you’d like to do some experimental casting on the day. \nYou’ll learn how to: \n\nCreate a top pouring mould in delft and cuttlefish\nCreate a side pouring mould in sand\nCreate a single delft mould for multiple pieces\nAdd bails and fixings to your castings\nCreate details in the sand moulds using stamps\nClean up your castings\n\nThe forms that you cast can be created into pendants\, earrings or charms. \nSilver is in addition to the course fee. DESCRIPTION:Flush setting jewellery workshop in Northamptonshire (BD16X4YHa) \nOn this one day silver jewellery workshop you will learn the technique of flush setting round faceted stones into sterling silver to create beautiful pendants\, rings or earrings. \nBy the end of the session you will be able to: \n\nAccurately measure metal and stones.\nLay and mark out stone positioning on metal with enough space to set them effectively.\nIdentify burrs and their uses.\nChoose appropriate burrs for your stone sizes.\nUse a pendant motor to drill through metal to create a seat for your stones.\nUse a needle burnisher to set your stones.\nFile\, sand and polish your piece.\n\nNB: Some of the time spent may be practicing the technique in copper.
