Gemstones for Jewellery with Sally Spencer (FGA DGA) Friday 20th October from 10am-4.30pm

On this one-day workshop Sally will take you through gemstone durability and what this means for jewellery, how to use a 10x loupe and tweezers to look at gemstones and a gemstone’s potential vulnerabilities.

You will look at synthetic and imitation gemstones, gemstone treatments, composite gemstones and explore a buyer beware gallery of horrors!

You will also have the opportunity to discover a little about how gemmologists identify gemstones, while trying some of the equipment for yourselves, as well as finding out why correct gemstone ID is important. This workshop is suitable for any jeweller, regardless of experience, as it is all about the stones rather than the type of jewellery you make, as well as anyone who loves gemstones and jewellery and would like to find out more about them. It will be a mixture of theory and lots of hands on gemstones!
