Technical Day – Baguette Setting (CJ19X1YHa) Ring or pendant

Technical days are a selection of more advanced jewellery courses for learners looking to add to their current skills.

This course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of how to design, fabricate and set a piece of jewellery with a baguette faceted gemstone.

Beccy will guide you through each step with a structured, hands-on approach, where you will explore the principles of mount construction, design and stone setting.

By the end of the course, learners will have the confidence and practical skills to fabricate and set baguette stones and apply the techniques to future projects too.

Learning Outcomes

• Accurately measure gemstones and calculate material dimensions
• Select suitable metals and material thicknesses for the selected stone
• Score and bend the material to the accurate size to seat the stone
• Cut the end bezels to fit the stone accurately
• Construct ring shank or pendant bail to fit the style of the piece
• Burr the seating for the gemstone to be set
• File the end bezels accurately ready for setting
• Set the stone
• File and finish to remove solder and imperfections
• Polish the completed piece to a professional standard

Level: Suitable for those with experience of soldering, forming and cabochon stone setting

The day will be very technical and accurate measuring and forming is paramount in order for the setting to work.

Materials: In addition to the course fee and will be approx £15-£50 depending on your design and stone you choose.

Our levels explained:

Beginner – suitable for all

Improver – some basic jewellery making experience required including wire forming

Intermediate – experience of forming, soldering and basic stone setting essential

Experienced – experienced in accurate forming, soldering multiple connections and faceted stone setting essential

Advanced – Competent in many varying aspects of jewellery making (soldering, forming and stone setting) to a high standard.
