Technical Day – Claw set statement pendant
Technical days are a selection of more advanced jewellery courses for learners looking to add to their current skills.
This course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of how to design, fabricate, and set a professional pendant with a claw setting for a faceted gemstone.
Beccy will guide you through each step with a structured, hands-on approach, where you will explore the principles of the construction specific to the stone you choose, design principals and stone setting.
By the end of the course, learners will have the confidence and practical skills to fabricate and set faceted stones with claws and apply the technique future projects too.
Learning Outcomes
- Accurately measure gemstones and calculate dimensions for the seating and the claws
- Select suitable metals and material thicknesses for the selected stone
- Solder the elements together accurately
- Form the setting to fit the stone accurately
- Construct a bail that compliments the setting
- File and finish the pendant to remove solder and imperfections
- Burr seating for the stone in the claws ready for setting
- Set the stone
- Polish the completed pendant to a professional standard
Level: Intermediate – Suitable only for those with experience of soldering, forming and cabochon stone setting
Materials: In addition to the course fee and will be approx £15-£50 depending on your design and stone you choose.
